![]() with Cattle Decapitation By Jeff Collins
These guys are not your typical PETA supporters. Although SPAY/USA and the Humane Society can be accessed through their website, Cattle Decapitation have shunned acoustic guitars and sandals in favor of grinding guitars and machine gun drumming on their fourth release, Humanure. A completely original approach to support animal rights? Absolutely. A completely original approach to death metal? Not quite. Cattle D. comes at you with jagged guitar lines, cookie monster vocals, and lightning fast drumming, which is to be expected from this particular genre of music, yet still a sound they did not create and have yet to perfect. Underneath all of the gurgling vocals, however, are some very clever lyrics that occasionally border on genius. In my opinion, the musings of singer Travis Ryan are one of the only things besides the bands politics that distinguish them from their peers. A human gum fastened to an envelope/ That I smelted from scrotums and labias/ Its brainy texture provides excellent elasticity. If you cant appreciate the brilliance of this line, my friend, then there must be something wrong with you. Cattle Decapitations disgust for mankind becomes overwhelmingly apparent as Ryan explores many ways to mutilate the human body, the striking resemblance between humans and diseases, and even the joys of eating feces. If you love death metal, twisted lyrics, and animal rights as much as these guys , then you would do well to pick up a copy of Humanure as soon as possible. The original cover art for, which depicts a cow s***ting out human remains, has recently been censored, making it a fairly limited edition. I wonder what this might fetch on Ebay
