Krack - Back in Krack
The moment I received the Britney's Krack CD I knew I was in store for some fun punk party music. Four guys from the Toronto scene covering pop songs from Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera. The CD cover, an eclectic take on AC/DC's "Back in Black", comes with a "Parental Advisory: This band sucks" sticker on it. If you LOVE Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, you'll LIKE Britney's Krack. Guitarist Andre "Dr. Dre" Filippetti does an excellent job of putting the punk into the pop songs. Frontman James Britney, on the other hand, doesn't seem to put enough vocal energy into the songs, the result, great songs with lifeless/stale vocals. It doesn't really sound like they were having fun recording this album, rather, just putting out a demo to be heard. Their website show what could easily be one of the best party bands in the underground scene today. Livin' La Vida Loca, Oops I did it again, and Hero (by Enrique Iglesias, in case you forgot) are the best tracks on this 5 song demo, but the classic Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" feels really inappropriate here. Britney's Krack could be one of the most fun groups to see in Toronto now. This band is all about having a good time, making flyers with fake nude pictures of Britney Spears (internet buffs know what im talking about), and with a name like Britney's Krack they've got your attention the minute you hear about them. The best way to sum them up? You get a little more than what you paid for (if you paid for this demo that is) and nothing less, but definitely a great live band to party with.
