Jimi Hendrix Murdered? Experience Member Noel Redding Discussed Possibility in New DVD
The Redding Experience DVD is set for release on December 6th 2010. We were sent some background info on the release.

The DVD features a never before seen interview with Noel Redding the bass player in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which was recorded at Redding's home in Ireland in 1988.

Producer Will Scally explains how the interview came about. "I had known and been friends with Noel for many years and always found him a very upfront, straightforward guy. We often spoke about doing an interview, he wanted to speak about the band, money, drugs and the death of Hendrix and much more even speaking about the possibility of Hendrix being murdered. He was on good form that day and wanted to record this for posterity." - more on this story

Emerson, Lake and Palmer Breaking Up
(hennemusic) After four decades, Emerson, Lake and Palmer are done. Drummer Carl Palmer has told Classic Rock that ELP's 40th anniversary reunion gig at this summer's High Voltage Festival will be the trio's final appearance together.

"Well, for reasons I won't go into, it's always hard to rev it up," said Palmer. "We rehearsed for it for a month, which almost killed me. Not the physical side of it, just keeping interested. Me personally, I didn't need a month. But that's what we did, and when it came to the gig, what you saw was what you got.

"That's as good as it will ever be (again). Everyone seemed pretty happy with it, and I think that gig will be far as the three of us can take things." - Now about that final release

U2's Spider-Man Musical Delayed
(Gibson) The curtain will still rise on Broadway's new musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark it will just be a couple weeks later than planned. The stage production, featuring music by U2's Bono and The Edge, was supposed to begin previews on November 14 and open officially on December 21. Now, previews will start later this month and the show will open in January, according to Rolling Stone.

The reason for the delay: the creative team required more time for dress rehearsals and to meet safety standards for the actors (who, with Spidey's penchant for webslinging, will be doing some acrobatic moves). The Spider-Man musical has been in development for more than three years with a budget that has increased to $60 million.

Bono recently said that he and guitarist The Edge are trying to convince the other two members of U2 (bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr.) to record an album based on the songs from the musical. -

The Bon Jovi frontman tells The Guardian: "My biggest challenge has been to be sure I never sold out or sacrificed my art for commerce.

"We never had rappers when that was popular, or hung out with grunge guys, or tried to be a boy band. What Bon Jovi has done, we did our way." - more on this story

Foo Fighters Going Heavy?
(Gibson) Foo Fighters have been hard at work on the follow-up to their 2007 album, Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace. As the band have been busily laying down tracks with Nirvana producer (and Garbage songwriter/drummer) Butch Vig, two creative themes have emerged: the silly and the heavy.

Speaking to NME, frontman Dave Grohl revealed that he was asked by bassist Nate Mendel to bring some of the fun back to the band's songwriting. "At one point Nate sent me an email, and said, 'I really like it when you write songs that are silly and mean nothing, too," he said. "You don't have to try and write Imagine every time you sit down with a pen and paper."

Grohl also mentioned that following his declaration that the new album would be the band's heaviest yet, Vig began shooting down any composition that didn't meet that requirement. "Butch saw [the quote] and then when I'd approach him with a new song idea, he'd say, 'This doesn't rock enough, no Next.' I'd have to show him another one." -

Remembering The Late Great Link Wray
(Gibson) Link Wray, one of the most influential guitarists in rock and roll history, died on this day in 2005.

The Native American guitar pioneer who struck gold with the angriest instrumental of all time, died in Copenhagen, where he had been living for the past 20 years. His guitar sound and style, his use of power chords and distortion formed the bedrock of rock and roll and infiltrated everything loud and angry from hard rock to metal and punk.

There's a sequence in the rock movie It Might Get Loud when Jimmy Page pulls out some records form his youth and spins Link Wray's "Rumble." It had a profound influence on him, he says and then grins and smiles and plays air guitar on the growling instrumental. Pete Townshend said, "He is the King; if it hadn't been for 'Rumble,' I would have never picked up a guitar." - more on this story
