After forty years, twenty-eight ODs, three botched suicides, two heart attacks, a couple of jail stints, and a debilitating stroke, Steven Adler, the most self-destructive rock star ever, is ready to share the shattering untold truth in My Appetite for Destruction.
When Adler was eleven years old he told his two closest friends he was going to be a rock star in the world's greatest band. Singled Out: Tony Lucca's Always |
As an independent artist who spends more than half the year on the road, I wind up getting in most of my songwriting between sound checks and showtimes, in the back seat of a tour van or in some cheap hotel room on any of a handful of my days off. Unfortunately, I was on tour while my wife was in her third trimester, expecting our daughter, Sparrow. Of course my head was spinning with countless thoughts of becoming a father for the first time, much less that of a baby girl. Somehow the idea of being able to honestly Love someone - completely, unconditionally, forever - became so overwhelming that I couldn't help but write about it. The words came to me during a night drive through Colorado and the next day I was able to sit down at a piano and came up with something to go along with it. The result was the song "Always." It's funny how quiet I'm able to get some rooms when playing this song live. Even the toughest of cookies seem to connect to it, especially if they've ever had the pleasure of bringing a child into the world and loving them as only a parent can. It's pretty damn cool, really.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

"We played our first ever show as a band in Manheim, PA in April of 2003," explains guitarist JB Brubaker. "Between then and now we've been fortunate enough to play all over the world. Place Of Skulls Eye Fall Release |
The follow-up to 2006's The Black Is Never Far was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (Pentagram, Death Row, Cathedral, Joe Hasselvander) with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing.
Said Griffin of the band's latest output: "The new album As A Dog Returns picks up dynamically where The Black Is Never Far left off. Where The Black... album had a bit more of a depressive theme lyrically, the new album tends to look to a brighter outcome. Musically we've gone further than ever before with dynamics and production. Though all the PLACE OF SKULLS' brand of heaviness you would expect is certainly there, there's a nice ebb and flow with quieter parts which tend to set a very dramatic and melancholy mood at times to the overall album.
