Congress Inaction Killing Music

07/12/07
.
(CMJ) Congressman Jay Inslee (D-WA) spoke on behalf of his Internet Radio Equality Act today on the floor of the US House Of Representatives, asking Congress to "fix this problem," calling SoundExchange's offer, which was ordered by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), to raise the royalty rates currently paid by Internet radio stations a "guillotine."

In what will likely be the last time the situation will be addressed in said public forum before the July 15 ruling goes into effect, Islee is still hopeful that a "viable and fair resolution" will be met.

"We do not intend to let, in the words of Don McLean's song, the music to die," he said. "It is, too, a part of the American culture, and I will encourage my colleagues to help out by cosponsoring this bill." - more on this story
