Who
Loves Kok? |
antiMusic reports: If you ever hear some dude
proclaim, "I love Kok" it does not mean that he just joined the Clay Aiken
fan club, it means he's heard or saw LA rockers Bangkok Five. But if you
hear a certain Hollywood starlet issue that proclamation, she might have
the more obvious in mind and apparently she found it on Craigslist, this
according to a song on the band's major label debut Who's Gonna Take
Us Alive.
During the live intro to the track "Tiara,"
frontman Frost explains that the song was inspired by an actress friend
that "actually found a guy on Craigslist to have sex with so that her boyfriend
would stay with her." Frost doesn't identify the actress by name ("Because
[he] has that much class") but a quick read of the liner notes may or may
not solve the mystery of which Hollywood bad girl Frost & Co are singing
about. [see the full story for our review of the band's kick ass new cd]

RIAA
Vs Education |
MTV reports: Like many of the thousands of
other people who've been sued by the Recording Industry Association of
America for allegedly downloading music illegally, 20-year-old Cassi Hunt
is in no position to pay off thousands of dollars in fines.
But the advice a RIAA representative gave
the sophomore physics major at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
didn't really sound reasonable: Drop out and get a job or switch to a cheaper
community college.[you really need to click over for the full story on

Jizzy
Rear Ended |
Metal Sludge reports: [Hookers N' Blow usually
fronted by Dizzy Reed of Guns N' Roses were involved in a car accident.
What follows is from Jizzy Pearl as posted on Sludge] Hey. Still alive
and well. Sunday night Alex [Grossi], Scott Griffin and I were hit from
the rear by a drunk driver going appromixately 70MPH. We crashed into a
guardrail and went airborne for what seemed to be about 5 seconds, then
spun upside down and skidded for 40 or 50 feet. A 'rollover' in cop lingo.
I was front passenger, Scott driving, Alex
in back with the gear. We were returning to our hotel after eating at the
club when all of a sudden Scott yells 'F**K!' and what feels like a baseball
bat slams into my back. The guy had hit us on the right rear and we went
crashing into the guardrail bending it into a large U-shape.[see full story

Dio
Mindcrime |
antiMusic reports: This week Morley spoke
with Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate about the sequel to their landmark
Operation Mindcrime. Below are a couple excerpts from the new MorleyView.
antiMUSIC: How did you go about assembling
the story? Did you have it laid out in your mind pretty much when doing
the first record?
Geoff Tate: No. No. Not at all.
I started a file on my laptop years later. Actually called Nikki, and go
there and do character sketches and that kind of thing over the years and
it really was just a lot of random thoughts and passages, and chapters.
Things like that. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I kind of
fine-tuned it and opened it up one day and realized there was a story there.
A worthy story to conclude the big story.
antiMUSIC: How did the inclusion of
the duet with Ronnie James Dio come about?
Geoff Tate: Simply a brainstorm.
We wrote the song. And of course when you write a song like that with two
voices, you have to find that other voice, so Doctor X needed a voice at
that point. And Ronnie just came to mind and he'd always been one of my
vocal idols, you know, and I've worked with him several times over the
years in different areas, touring mostly, and he's just an incredible person,
the kind of person that you want around when you're doing a project because
he brings a lot of positive energy to it. So I'm glad he said yes. He was
very interested in and came up to San Francisco where we recorded him and
we just had a wonderful day with the studio work. He's a legend. Just an
absolutely phenomenal singer. [see the full story for the full MorleyView

Blueberry
(Capitol) Hill |
AP reports: A high school band plays Beethoven.
President Calvin Coolidge delivers his inaugural address. Fats Domino turns
"Blueberry Hill," a hit for big-band leader Glenn Miller, into a rock 'n'
roll classic. They're among the 50 records that the Library of Congress
has deemed worthy of preservation this year.
Other rock classics being inducted include
Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and Buddy Holly's "That'll
Be the Day," both from 1957; the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Are You Experienced?"
from 1967; and Sonic Youth's landmark noise-rock album "Daydream Nation,"
from 1988.[see full story for more]- Click
