Cent Shooting |
AP reports: A man was shot in the leg Monday
night in the lobby of a Manhattan radio station while rapper 50 Cent was
making an on-air appearance, police said.
According to Newsday, the injured man was
a member of 50 Cent's entourage. The newspaper reported that the shooting
happened shortly after 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, announced
he was dropping his protege The Game from his hip-hop clique, G-Unit.
The victim, a 24-year-old Los Angeles man
who was not identified, was shot in the left leg. Officials said he was
taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and was listed in stable condition early
Tuesday. [see full story for more]- Click

Leppard
Vs Critic |
Day in Rock reports: Def Leppard's Joe Elliot
took to the web to address a review printed on MelodicRock.com of the band's
forthcoming "covers" CD. In his post, Elliot blasted the critic for reviewing
"a work in progress". Here is Joe's first posting. "It appears someone
(at some site dedicated to melodic rock) thinks it's terribly clever to
go public with the first review of the covers CD. Well, here's a couple
of things he/she/it might like to contemplate.....
"IT'S NOT FINISHED YET!! He/she/it has,
by the looks of things, luckily stumbled across a work-in-progress copy
on someone's desk -- someone who admittedly should know better than to
leave a copy lying around in view of such a low life. So it's a stolen,
rough UNFINISHED copy that clearly doesn't belong to them. A cheap journalistic
trick that's been going on for years.....
"This person (and I use the term loosely),
has no ears. This is obvious from some of the comments regarding the sound.
Any idiot hearing it would know it isn't finished yet, except for it seems,
this particular idiot. I would suggest that whichever mag or site he/she/it
writes for reserve further judgment on the CD until it's actually finished.
He/she/it's opinion of the songs bothers not one bit, as song choice is
always subjective (especially on a covers album). Our fans will get a chance
to hear the songs and read why we chose these particular songs, but all
in good time.
"A final note to the above mentioned "music
critic"..... please give it back to whoever you stole it from, you a**hole.
"

story link, Joe was kind enough to link to the critic's response and post
his own counter response. - Click

Lil
Kim Trial |
Reuters reports: Hip-hop artist Lil' Kim began
facing the music on Monday when a jury was chosen to decide if the rapper
lied to a federal grand jury investigating a 2001 shootout outside a Manhattan
radio station.
Opening statements in the case against
Lil' Kim and her personal assistant Monique Dopwell are scheduled to begin
on Tuesday morning in Manhattan federal court.
...Prosecutors charge that the women lied
during the investigation to protect members of the performer's entourage
who were involved in the shootout. The two defendants deny wrongdoing.

bands are a dime a dozen, so the newest disc of musical homages, Everything

Four Tet, Japanese noise group Ruins and beatmaking Björk collaborators

Labels
Push For Download Price Increase |
FMQB reports: Some music labels are attempting
to negotiate with digital music retailers to increase the price of downloads,
according to Financial Times. Since the business of selling songs online
is still relatively new, some of the labels do not want to disrupt the
market at this point. Universal and Sony BMG are not very supportive of
the push for a price increase says FT. [see full story for more]-

Dimebag
Estate |
Yahoo Music reports: The estate of slain Damageplan
and Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott will probably be divided
evenly between his brother, Damageplan and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul,
and his father, country and western songwriter Jerry Abbott, according
to the Dallas-Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Family lawyer Steve McClure told the newspaper
that while Abbott didn't leave a will, there is no squabbling over the
estate: "[Abbott] reiterated to just about everybody that he didn't have
a will because he didn't want to give anyone a reason. These are class
folks and you're not going to see them at the courthouse fighting over
nickels and dimes." [see full story for more]- Click

Inspires Foxx |
AP reports: Jamie Foxx's Oscar win has solidified
him as one of Hollywood's A-list actors. But what he really wants to be

an album for J Records, home to Alicia Keys, Mario and Rod Stewart. One
of the producers on the album, Rich Harrison, told The Associated Press

Edguy
EP |
Metal Rules reports: [An update from Edguy]We
are working full-steam on our new EP that is estimated to be released in
September. A full length album is to follow early next year. I liked the
concept of delivering a big value-for-money thing as the official single
last time just like the 'King of Fools' EP. We got very good response to
that and we are so creative at the moment that there will be a lot of material
as it seems. We'll see, can't tell too much at this point. But we are working
on that one. Anyway, the material sounds good, sound like EDGUY, very fresh,
very cheeky and of course epic at times. You'll hear it later.-

begun its enquiry into Apple's iTunes Music Store pricing in the UK.
The question of whether UK customers are
being overcharged was referred to the Commission by the Office of Fair
Trading, responding to a complaint by the Consumers' Association, publishers
of Which?.
Apple charges Û0.99 per song in its
European stores and 79p - about Û1.14 - in the UK. At the time of
the original complaint by the CA, Apple said, 'The underlying economic
model in each country has an impact on how we price our track downloads.
That's not unusual, look at the price of CDs in the US versus the UK. We
believe the real comparison to be made is with the price of other track
downloads in the UK.' [see full story for more]- Click
