Trail of Dead Tour
Pitchfork reports: ...as we reported last
month, the wisely sages at Interscope, to which the band are shackled and
bound, recently decided to forgo the planned October 5th release of the
band's full-length follow-up, Worlds Apart, and to instead push it back
to January of 2005 to make room for releases by U2 and Eminem.
Fortunately, January isn't really that far away-- and it got just a little bit closer. In a sort of kind of way. You see, this time next month, fans will be lining up at shows nationwide to not only witness the raw, frenetic power of the group's older material, but also the explosive, exploding explosions of the new stuff. Indeed: Trail of Dead frontman Conrad Keely has just uncurtained plans for a 27-date North American fall tour, to kick off a month from yesterday at their hometown's esteemed Emo's venue. The jaunt will officially bring closure to the band's longest period of not touring since their inception seven years ago, and will be in support of the group's brand new single, which, just like the album, is titled "Worlds Apart". Rappers Gotta Pay
AP reports: A federal appeals court ruled
Tuesday that rap artists should pay for every musical sample included in
their work even minor, unrecognizable snippets of music.
Lower courts had already ruled that artists must pay when they sample another artists' work. But it has been legal to use musical snippets a note here, a chord there as long as it wasn't identifiable.
The decision by a three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati gets rid of that distinction. The court said federal laws aimed at stopping piracy of recordings applies to digital sampling. [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

The Fest 3 To Hit Florida
thefestfl.com reports: It is on! Work
has started on THE FEST 3- "Triple Threat in 3D". The dates have been set
for Oct 29th, 30th and 31st. Once again it will be held in the city that
loves to host a party, Gainesville FL. The same format will be in effect,
but we are adding an extra day of debauchery to continue through Halloween.
Three days, five venues, about 70 or so bands, and the three day pass will
still remain the low price of $25 in advance and $40 weekend of. If you
are not familiar with the concept behind THE FEST it is pretty easy. You
come and run your ass all over Gainesville and see a ton of bands. You
party your ass off, stay up late, meet crazy people, dance, sing along,
party with old and new friends, see some of the bands passed out in the
streets, and then leave wondering, why can't this s*** happen everyday
of our lives. So, start training your liver, get a sleep deprivation tank,
sport a tude, and tell your family and work that you might not be making
it back. [a regular reader sent this in and said everyone in the area should
check it out. Sounds like a blast. See the full story link to get all the

Datsuns No Longer Outta Sight
press release reports: "Rock has become
a marketing tool just like anything else- you see a pop idol or a movie
star wearing an AC/DC t-shirt," proclaims Christian Datsun, lead guitarist
and composer of New Zealand's Datsuns. "It's has morphed from a form of
music into something else. As a band, we want to enjoy what rock and roll
music was about in the first place- a high energy, spontaneous show, the
combination of a good atmosphere, a good crowd and loud music and the excitement
that comes with it, instead of selling Diet Pepsi, or something."
And that, friends, is what the Datsuns have imparted to rock and roll fans all over the globe since release of their self-titled 2002 debut. This September marks the release of Outta Sight/Outta Mind, a Molotov cocktail comprised of 21st century boogie and pull no punches punk rock.
Produced by John Paul Jones, the surviving half of the world's greatest rock and roll rhythm section (as well as knobsman for R.E.M., Butthole Surfers and Diamanda Galas). [the CD comes out next Tuesday]- Click Here for the Full Story

Black Metal Soundtrack
press release reports: It shall be no
surprise to those who've braved the later work of The Avant-Garde Black
Metal misfits Choronzon that their cinematic nightmarescapes has been added
to the soundtrack of an intense independent film. Damnatus, a film based
on Warhammer 40.000, a Sci-Fi strategy game from the creative minds of
Games workshop, deals in gorgeous dark imagery and showcases the talents
of director Huan Vu.
Set in a nightmare future where the high-tech forces of humanity fight for survival against enigmatic, ancient alien races, Damnatus deals with some themes that have been part of the Choronzon Oeuvre since the beginning. The creations of Choronzon have embodied the visual aspect of P. Emerson Williams' work as his art invokes otherworldly melody and infernal harmony/disharmony. This film is Choronzon's perfect sonic setting. - Click Here for the Full Story

Lost Pink Floyd Documentary
Found
press release reports: On November 30th,
1979, the musical genius that was "Pink Floyd" released an album, which
would place the band at the pinnacle of the recording industry and make
a permanent mark on FM airwaves. The telling of this story happened only
30 times on stages in Los Angeles, New York, Dortmund and London.
During August 1980, cameras captured the only footage of the frenetic operations to build these stages. From the moment the fleet of trucks arrived, until the lights went down and the music began. The project was edited as a behind-the-scenes documentary on the engineering of the concerts, to be presented to the loyal, enthusiastic fans of the band. Perhaps more significant. this performance would be the last for the band with all the original members who recorded the album. In the melee of the breakup. this documentary was archived and forgotten for nearly a quarter century.
Witness now the building of "The Wall"
and "The Lost Documentary".- Click
