Eminem
Cult Priest |
Sohh reports: Eminem's politically charged
video for "Mosh" has earned him recognition as "honorary priest" of the
anti-violence UFO cult, The Raelian Movement.
Besides taking the top chart position this
week for his album, Encore, Eminem is getting another top position as an
"honorary priest" of the Raelian Movement. The group's founder, Rael, formerly
known as Claude Vorilhon, has bestowed the title upon Eminem for his anti-war
video, "Mosh," [see full story for more]- Click

Metallica
Stole Song? |
Metal Underground reports: Did Metallica inadvertently
"borrow" a musical idea from another band for their 1986 dark "power ballad"
"Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"? Several Internet reports definitely seem to
suggest so.
A song called "Rainbow Warrior" by the
obscure NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band Bleak House appears
to contain undeniable similarities to the Metallica classic. The Bleak
House track was released as a seven-inch single in 1980 via Buzzard Records,
and was followed up by another seven-inch single in 1982 and various compilation
appearances before the band apparently called it a day.
A self-proclaimed NWOBHM fanatic, Metallica
drummer Lars Ulrich spent much of his time in the early '80s tracking down
obscure recordings from his favorite groups of the era. [see full story

Maiden
Dis U.S. |
BW&BK reports: IRON MAIDEN fan site MaidenFans.com
report that in a recent interview with Maidenfans.com member AirRaidSyren,
drummer Nicko McBrain spoke about the band's future in America.
Says Nicko, "Well, to be honest, we don't
like playing in America. It's not good, and it's not me that has the major
problems in the band since I live in America, but we have a real problem
with American's attitude".
Nicko didn't say specifically that Maiden
won't play in America anymore, but from this it's pretty clear that if
that's the case it'll be just a few dates, like on the Dance Of Death tour
last winter. - Click

Covers |
Xfm reports: A new poll of the Top 50 best
cover versions of all time has just been published with Jimi Hendrix's
version of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower' topping the list, while
the Top 10 includes The Beatles, Sid Vicious and Scissor Sisters.
The list of the Top 50 cover versions was
chosen by Daily Telegraph music critics and includes well known favourites
such as Johnny Cash's version of U2's One', Ryan Adams' reworking of Oasis'
Wonderwall' and The Vines' take on Outkast's Ms Jackson'.
Topping the list though was All Along
the Watchtower' by The Jimi Hendrix Experience as recorded by the guitar
legend in 1968, only one year after Bob Dylan wrote and recorded the original
on his album John Wesley Harding'. [see full story for more, including

Reading
& Leeds Tease |
Xfm reports: Two out of the three main stage
headliners for next year's Carling Reading and Leeds Weekender festivals
have already been decided upon, according to Mean Fiddler's director of
festivals Melvin Benn.
It may seem a long while off (nine months
to be exact), but according to a new interview with Benn, it appears that
two thirds of the main stage bands have already been booked. Perhaps predictably,
Benn refused to be drawn on the identity of the two bands, but did rule
out any major shift in musical policy.
"We've booked most of the acts for Reading
and Leeds already and have confirmed two of the three headliners," Benn
confessed to Virtual Festivals You know I can't tell you who they are,
but they've both got singers and use guitars. They both have drummers as
well! That's as much as you're getting!" [see full story for more]-

Covers EP, New CD |
Billboard reports: While touring behind its
recently released "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1," Korn is already looking forward
to its next studio project. According to guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer,
the alternative metal act's seventh album is slated for a late spring/early
summer 2005 release.
"On Jan. 2, we're going to go back and
finish writing our next album," Shaffer tells Billboard.com. "It's definitely
more of a progressive [sounding] Korn," he adds, declining to divulge any
tentative song titles.
After including covers on its Epic/Immortal
set "Greatest Hits, Vol. 1," Shaffer hints the Bakersfield, Calif.-based
five-piece is working on a covers EP, with a tentative title of "Korn Kovers,"
for a possible April release. [see full story for more]-
