Ozzy Robbed

antiMUSIC reports: [updated since Day in Rock originally posted ] Ozzy Osbourne had some unexpected guests at his English country home just before dawn on Monday. Two burglars used a ladder to enter the veteran rocker's Buckinghamshire home and after a scuffle between Ozzy and one of the burglars, they made off with large amount of jewelry. 

The Sun reports that Ozzy had one of the burglars in a headlock but the burglar broke free and jumped out of a  first-floor window. 

Ozzy was at home with his wife Sharon when they were awoken by the intruders. Ozzy was quoted by the Sun stating that he went after one of the burglars in an effort to save Sharon from harm. 

"He was a big, strong man - but at one point I thought I could kill him to stop him hurting Sharon. But then I just let him drop," Ozzy was reported to have said by The Sun.

U2 Take NY

Aversion reports: If nothing else, you can't deny U2's good at creating a buzz around its latest release. This time, it was with a free show in Brooklyn, New York, yesterday (Nov. 22). 

The band made a surprise appearance in Brooklyn to promote its latest, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (due out today from Interscope). Playing from the back of a flatbed truck, the act previewed material from its new platter for passers-by.

Silly News: Coach Snoop

NMC reports: Last week, Snoop Dogg hit the football field with the University of Southern California Trojans. According to MTV, Snoop surprised the USC team at a pre-practice meeting and then gave the players some pointers during practice. This isn't the first time Snoop's done some coaching. Van Halen DVD Possibility?

Digital Noise reports: [Patrick Douglas of Digital Noise interviewed Michael Anthony at the end of October. During the short interview, they discussed quite a few topics but one that caught our attention here at the Day in Rock is this exchange about a possible live DVD] 

Patrick: Are there plans to hit the studio for a full length album in the near future? 

Michael: We've talked about it on and off. We haven't actually set any really long term plans right now, �cause we just wanted to get out and play and make sure that everything's comfortable out here, which it is. We're having a great time. So I'm sure once the tour wraps up, we'll probably wait until then and then all get together and see what's going to happen next. We're taping every show and videoing every show, so you never know what could come out next year. 

Patrick: Awesome. Live DVD.

MuchMusic reports: DMX has plea-bargained his way out of jail time. The rapper was charged with menacing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. MuchMusic reports: First their "Pass The Mic" flute solo and now this. Beastie Boys are being sued for sampling once again. Oasis Brawl Fine

Xfm reports: Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has been fined £35,000 for the drunken fight he was involved in while on tour in Germany back in 2002 (in addition to the reported £20,000 he had to pay to get his two front teeth replaced after they were knocked out during the brawl). 

The affray started when Liam jumped on stage to perform a karaoke version of himself when a disc jockey started playing an Oasis track. A dispute with a group of businessmen at a neighbouring table then followed and members of Oasis' entourage, protected by their bodyguards, began throwing peanuts. 

Fighting broke out soon after with an Oasis minder being knocked out in the brawl while Liam got his two front teeth smashed out. It was reported around ten police cars were dispatched to quell the fight (some claiming that Liam was spotted whirling a microphone stand around "like a Viking battle-axe" before he kung-fu kicked a policeman in the chest). Hives UK

Xfm reports: Following their sold-out Brixton Academy show in September, Sweden's finest The Hives will be returning to the UK for a headlining UK tour in April next year. 

The band will be undertaking a seven date tour next year to promote their recent (and awfully titled) album �Tyrannosaurus Hives' kicking off at the Brighton Dome on April 16, taking in a London date at the Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday April 20 and finishing up at Norwich UEA on April 26 [see full story for more, including dates]- Click Here for the Full Story 
 

Maiden Shirt Tops Poll

BW&BK reports: They have never been the coolest of bands. But IRON MAIDEN's iconic mascot Eddie - the ghoulish figure which has appeared on their album sleeves for a quarter of a century - has helped them to the top of the charts in the rock 'n' roll fashion stakes. 

The denim-and-leather-clad heavy metal act has seen its merchandise named all-time favourite music T-shirt in a poll of thousands of people who were asked to choose from a shortlist of more than 30 all-time classic shirts.

Megadeth Box

BW&BK reports: This past summer, Megadeth reissued a number of their albums, and the reissues have just come out as a boxed set.

The set is called Hell Wasn't Built In A Day: The Complete Remasters, and it includes Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good... So What, Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings and Risk. As we previously told you, group leader Dave Mustaine remixed - and, in some cases, significantly overhauled - the albums, and the reissues include unreleased tracks, demos, and alternate mixes. Blabbermouth reports: Legendary guitarist Michael Schenker has outlined his upcoming activities in the following posting on his official web site: 

"To go to Japan [on November] 28th to work with a Japanese artist then fly back to the States to L.A. for an 'all star band' recording. What I know so far is that the rhythym section will be MR. BIG's bass player Billy Sheehan and Simon Philips (JEFF BECK, TOTO, THE WHO, MSG and many others) on drums. Vocals so far, involve Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW) and Tommy Shaw (STYX). Nocturnal Rites Reissue

Blabbermouth reports: Century Media will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Swedish power metallers NOCTURNAL RITES with the release of a double-CD set containing their first two albums, due on February 21, 2005. The debut album, "In A Time of Blood And Fire", was released in 1995 on Megarock Records but was only available in small quantities. Two years later the boys from Sweden's northern rock city Umea released their second opus, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination", in Japan (re-released in the rest of the world with different cover artwork on Century Media a year later). 36 Crazyfists Drop Tour

Blabbermouth reports: Alaska's 36 CRAZYFISTS have dropped off their previously announced tour with NONPOINT, CANDIRIA and DRY KILL LOGIC. "The band will take the rest of the year off from touring and will begin writing their next record, which is tentatively scheduled for release in fall 2005 through Roadrunner Records," the group said in a statement. Righteous Biopic

Variety reports: Blue-eyed soul duo the Righteous Brothers will be the subject of the next musical foray for Arthur Friedman, producer of upcoming Bobby Darin biopic "Beyond the Sea." 

Friedman optioned feature rights from remaining Righteous Brother Bill Medley and the duo's longtime manager, David B. Cohen. Macca Half Time For Super Bowl

Ananova reports: Sir Paul McCartney has been chosen to provide the half-time entertainment at this year's Super Bowl game - the slot filled by Janet Jackson last year.

Ananova reports: The Darkness have splashed out nearly £600,000 on their own sheep farm. 

The rockers have bought a farm in the village of Spooner Row in Norfolk, says the Daily Star.

Jake La Botz' All Soul And No Money

press release reports: All Soul And No Money may be singer/songwriter Jake La Botz's first nationally distributed album. But he's lived several lifetimes in getting there. Indeed, the Chicago native, presently living in Los Angeles, has packed a lot into his short lifetime. He performed regularly on Maxwell Street with legendary Maxwell Street Jimmy Davis. He played guitar in the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church band in South Central Los Angeles. He appeared in the movie "Ghost World" with longtime friend Steve Buscemi. He wrote obits and worked at a graphite factory. He lived in his car until Chicago's plummeting temperatures demanded he go inside. 

And now, with All Soul And No Money on Joseph Street Records, due out on January 25, 2005, it's time for Jake La Botz to rise up from the underground and receive due recognition for his instantly memorable songs � which emanate from varied influences of Mississippi Hill Country and Chicago blues, punk rock and Americana. Aroarah rock out with Converse.

press release reports: Sacramento, California's latest musical export hits nationally this week with a brand new Converse commercial to be aired on MTV, MTV2, VH1, Spike TV and more. Aroarah and their track, "Summer Lies" were chosen by director Alastair Mckevitt (The Vines, The Star Spangles) to be featured in a "garage band" themed spot for the infamous shoe line. 

The all girl rock band has many things to be thankful for and having landed a national commercial is just one of them. The four girls, ranging in age from 18-20 have just played a hometown show with Juliette Lewis and The Licks and have a slew of dates lined up for December with Abloom and Onesidezero. For the new year, Aroarah is excited to be a part of the Girl Powder Concert Series with shows benefiting The Breast Cancer Fund-dates are still being confirmed and [see full story for already announced shows] 

Aroarah recently left home for the first time and made the move to Los Angeles to record with engineer James Murray (Janes Addiction, Hoobastank, Papa Roach) and producers Chuck Sparks (Trailer Park Pam) and Jasan Radford (Onesidezero, Abloom). The assembled recording team is the perfect fit for the bands mixture of hard rock rhythms with punk rock beats and melodic vocals, alongside gut-wrenching screams.
