ODB
RIP |
antiMUSIC reports: Ol' Dirty Bastard, the
controversial rapper and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan collapsed
and died at a New York recording studio on Saturday. He was 35.
ODB, real name Russell Jones, was known
for his innovative approach to hip-hop as well as his legal troubles. Jones
was at 36 Records LLC's recording studio in Manhattan when he collapsed.
He had complained earlier in the day of chest pains. Someone in studio
made a 911 call at approximately 4:45 pm, but when the paramedics arrived
on the scene they were unable to revive him. Early press reports state
that drug paraphernalia was not found on the scene and Jones appeared to
have died of natural causes. He would have turned 36 on Monday. [see full

QOTSA
Deny Assault |
antiMUSIC reports: The Queens of the Stone
Age camp have denied a Rolling Stone online article that reported that
frontman Josh Homme struck Dwarves frontman Blag Dahlia with a beer bottle.
The alleged run-in took place Wednesday
night (Nov 10) at the Dragonfly in Hollywood prior to The Dwarves scheduled
performance at the club. The Rolling Stone article, which posted on Thursday,
said that Homme "instigated a brawl" with Dahlia and hit him with a beer
bottle.
"After appearing backstage before the Dwarves'
midnight show, Homme began pouring beer over Dahlia's head while singing,
'Whatcha gonna do?'" reports Rolling Stone. "According to eyewitnesses,
after the two pushed each other, Homme struck Dahlia over the head with
a beer bottle."
The Queens of the Stone Age camp rejected
the validity of the Rolling Stone article and attacked its author with
a posting by "Dr. Insider" to their official website. Dr. Insider called
the Rolling Stone article a "fairy tale" and attacked its credibility because
the article stated that Dahlia was treated at a fictitious hospital. The
article has since been corrected to read "Hollywood Presbyterian Medical
Center" instead of "St. Mary's Hospital ". [see full story for more, including

New Sabbath |
Classic Rock Revisited reports: [The following
comes from a new interview with Tony Iommi at ClassicRock revisited. This
is a bit of bad news for Sabbath fans waiting for new CD] Now, I have to
ask about your other band.' Are there any plans on getting together and
recording? Tony: Oh, the other band' [laughs]. There are no plans. We
talk about it as we always do. I think everyone in Sabbath is into making
another album. We are certainly into doing another tour, for sure, if we
could. I would like to make another album but, as has been the case for
a long time, it is hard to get everyone together to do it. Ozzy has had
a lot of commitments over the past few years that have made it difficult.
Jeb: You are all rock stars but Ozzy has become a television icon.
Tony: Ozzy said he didn't like that and
that he wanted to get out of that.
Jeb: Isn't that up to Sharon?
Tony: Exactly! Sharon has taken over now;
she is on TV all the time.
Jeb: I talked with Bill Ward about a year
ago and he told me that there is an album of new Black Sabbath songs on
tape at his house that just need mixed.
Tony: We've got quite a few tracks that
we did. We had a writing period where we wrote about seven tracks that
are very good. Do you think they are going to end up on bootleg as well?
[laughs]. We better do something before anybody else does! [see full story

Ban After Near Riot |
Pollstar reports: Following a clash between
police and a crowd waiting in line to see Insane Clown Posse at the Albuquerque
Convention Center November 7, 40 people were detained and the group was
banned from returning to the venue.
The center's GM said that a "handful of
attendees" waiting to enter the concert became disrespectful and disruptive
to law enforcement.
"The attendees were trying to gain entrance
into the facility prior to the door opening by pulling on the doors and
hurling a few soft drink cans at the windows," Tom Morton told Pollstar.
"People that started screaming, swearing
and rock throwing - basically inciting a riot - went to jail," officer
Gene Campbell told the station. [see full story for more]-

Lennon,
Stones Hit CDs |
Reuters reports: How many times during the
'60s did you hear the phrase, "the Beatles and the Stones?" Four decades
after those two acts made their original chart impact, "the Beatles and
the Stones" are still potent forces. The evidence? John Lennon and the
Rolling Stones both had new albums entering The Billboard 200 in the week
ended Nov. 7.
Lennon's "Acoustic" (Capitol) opened at
No. 31 with sales of almost 28,000 copies. It's his highest-debuting set
since "Double Fantasy" bowed at No. 25 the week of Dec. 6, 1980 (two day
before his murder) and his highest charting in more than 20 years, since
"Milk and Honey" peaked at No. 11 the week of March 10, 1984.
Also making its first appearance on The
Billboard 200 was the Stones' "Live Licks" (Virgin), bowing at No. 50 with
almost 20,000. [see full story for more]- Click

I can't really give an accurate reason, because I feel that would be better
left for the band to explain, the truth is I actually got FIRED from COLD.

Killer To Ride the Lightning this Week |
Blabbermouth reports: A San Antonio man who
chanted the chorus to METALLICA's "No Remorse" after fatally shooting a
man in the head in Corpus Christi and robbing him of $13 twenty years ago
is set to die Thursday (November 18), according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Troy Kunkle, who has the METALLICA logo
tattooed on his left arm, was first scheduled to be executed in July, but
the Supreme Court issued a stay as the justices considered a writ filed
by Kunkle's lawyers. The writ asked the justices to decide if Texas courts
have been applying an unconstitutional standard that did not allow juries
to consider mitigating circumstances, such as mental illness, during capital
murder trials.
When the Supreme Court lifted the stay
last month, Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials scheduled him
to die by lethal injection. [see full story for more]-

Real Banana |
press release reports: Rock & roll comic
C.C. Banana, known for interviewing musicians while dressed as a large
yellow fruit, would like to set the record straight regarding the November
11th broadcast of VH1's "Bands Reunited." During the episode titled "Backstage
Pass," it was revealed that David Steel of The English Beat had agreed
to appear on the program, with the unusual provision that the interviewer
be dressed in a banana costume. Yet despite the fact that show host Amir
Haleem did in fact don the unlikely yellow attire, Steel failed to honor
his commitment, resulting in a failed attempt at reuniting him with his
former band mates.
"I'm not surprised that David Steel wouldn't
appear on camera," explains C.C. Banana. "He was obviously expecting to
be interviewed by ME! Steel wanted the real peel, not some second banana.
Why else make such an unorthodox request? Everyone knows that yours truly
is the ORIGINAL rock & roll fruit!"
Even the episode title "Backstage Pass"
is eerily similar to that of C.C. Banana's debut home video "Backstage
Banana," in which C.C. interviews members of such notable bands as Poison,
Winger and Cinderella.
"There's only room for ONE lunatic interviewing
rock stars in a banana suit," insists the flamboyant fruit. "And I'll be
damned if that lunatic ain't gonna be ME!"[see full story for more]-
