KISS Unsigned Opening
Blabbermouth reports: According to a posting
on their web site, Brooklyn-based trio ZO2 have secured the prestigious
opening slot for this summer's KISS/POISON tour. "This would be an outstanding
achievement for any band but the truly remarkable fact is that ZO2 is as
yet unsigned," the group write. "The thrill of a relative unknown opening
for such a legendary act as KISS is outweighed only by the promise of platinum
success that position often seems to fulfill. The slot has been held by
such musical heavyweights as AC/DC, JUDAS PRIEST, BON JOVI, JOHN MELLENCAMP.

Axl's Plastic
Blabbermouth reports: Star magazine recently
spoke with Los Angeles-based plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Griffin and New
York-based plastic surgeon Dr. John Sherman about Axl Rose and the GUNS
N' ROSES frontman's radical change in appearance. "I'd say Axl had cheek
implants put in at some point," Griffin said. "They're very dramatic."
As for his nose, "It looks like the tip has been refined, and the width
of the nose looks about 30% less than before," Sherman observed. What about
the brow? "It looks like he had a brow lift at some point," Griffin said.
"And possibly some lower lid work done" to get rid of under-eye circles.

To be fair to Axl, I saw him around the same time that the photo people are commenting on was taken and that photo doesn't do him justice. He still looks normal, in fact really young. That being said, the dude has to do something about the rope, I mean his hair.
RIAA's Fuzzy Math
tinfoil reports: [tinfoil posted a rather
illuminating article by Moses Avalon.. here is the opening teaser..] When
speaking this month to a representative from Soundscan, the company that
provides much of the data for the Billboard Top 200 Chart, I learned things
that would contradict reported statements by the RIAA. Mainly that US labels
have had a significant reduction in sales over the past three years. Cary
Sherman, president of the RIAA, responded personally, put his rebuttals
on the record and in the process exposed intriguing insight into the way
the RIAA calculates 'losses.' [extract]How is a 10% increase for first
quarter of 2004 similar to, or a premonition of, a 7% decrease for the
entire year of 2004?
THE SECRET: "SHIPMENTS" = "SALES"
Now armed with the secret decoder formula, I went back and read the RIAA and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Web sites more adroitly. Sure enough, every time the RIAA complains of large drops in "unit sales" it includes international sales, not strictly domestic. Every time it speaks to domestic "losses" it is speaking ONLY of "units shipped in the US" to record stores. It seemed obvious that if the RIAA confined their revenue statistics to the US market alone they may not be able to publish ANY losses in REVENUE at all. Avril & Manson
Rockdirt reports: The Glasgow Daily Record
spoke with Avril Lavigne in a wide-ranging interview where she touched
on her friendship with Marilyn Manson and rumors she's dating Sum 41's
Deryck Whibley or *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake. "When we're in the same
city we get together and he's so cool," Lavigne said of Manson. "One time,
we hung out in his room and watched movies. I went to his show a couple
of times and we hung out on the tour bus after. When we're together it's
really cool because we just sit there and totally talk. It's so healthy
when I can sit down and talk to another artist who's doing what I'm doing."

Brian Wilson Smiles
Ananova reports: Brian Wilson is to release
an all new recording of the lost Beach Boys album Smile.
Smile was to have been Wilson's "teenage symphony to God," designed to better The Beatles and surpass his own Pet Sounds.
But it was put on hold as the rest of the Beach Boys were uncomfortable with its avant garde nature and ambitious structure.
Wilson and lyricist Van Dyke Parks, who collaborated on the original Smile sessions in 1966-67, listened together to the 37-year-old tapes in November last year.
Now, an all-new studio recording of Smile will be made available by Nonesuch Records on September 27. [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Most Played Record In UK
Xfm reports: The most played record in
the United Kingdom of the past 70 years has just been named by Phonographic
Performance Ltd. And despite what you may think, it's not Seven Nation
Army' by The White Stripes.
The chart was compiled by the British performing rights group PPL (the Phonographic Performance Ltd) who took in data from 70 years of radio, club, shop and jukebox plays to find out which song got the most airing (from its original release through to recent exposure) from 1957 until 1994.
Surprisingly Procol Harum's 1967 single A Whiter Shade of Pale' hit the top spot, beating Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody' into second place. [see full story for more and the top 10 list]- Click Here for the Full Story
