KISS Angers Muslims Down
Under
News.com.au reports: KISS bass player
Gene Simmons has caused an uproar among Australia's Muslim community by
launching an attack on Islamic culture while in Melbourne.
The lizard-tongued rock god who is touring Australia with the world's most enduring glam rock band launched an attack on Muslim extremists during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio.
"Extremism believes that it's okay to strap bombs on to your children and send them to paradise and whatever else and to behead people," he said yesterday.
The Israeli-born US musician went on to say Islam was a "vile culture" that treated women worse than dogs.
Muslim women had to walk behind their men and were not allowed to be educated or own houses, he said. [see full story link for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Great White Use Fire Cover
To Promote Tour?
Boston.com reports: This week marks the
release of the first Great White album since the Station nightclub fire
last year in Warwick, R.I. It's not an album of new music -- rather, it
repackages two previous discs -- but the project has pitted the band against
the record label.
The release, however, caused a conflict because of what the band says was a disagreement over the cover art. The cover has a shark leaping from the ocean, but the band initially thought the cover was supposed to be of a shark jumping out of flames and responded with a statement saying it was "horrified to discover" that the record company "had attempted to profit on the horrible tragedy of February 20th, 2003." (Band manager Obi Steinman did not return calls seeking further comment.)
Cleopatra Records, though, maintains that the flame design was never going to be used, Gray says. Although the original cover of the "Great Zeppelin" tribute did show a shark jumping through flames, Gray insists the band was told that no such image would appear on "A Double Dose." He added that Great White knew this and yet still criticized the record label purely to raise interest in a coming tour. (The tour dates are all in the Midwest and West.)
"They still went ahead and released a press statement," says Gray. "They want to be humble, but they're not." [see full story for lots more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Another Courtney Plea
E! reports: On the bright side, with criminal
cases pending in both California and New York, at least Courtney Love's
racking up some solid frequent-flier miles.
Love was in East Coast court mode Thursday to plead innocent to bonking a guy on the head with a microphone stand during a nightclub show.
Love, wearing a red print dress over pink silk pants, showed up two hours late for her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of assault and reckless endangerment. She entered her now usual not guilty plea to Judge Kathryn Freed and was released on her own recognizance. The case was then adjourned until June 28. Court TV just might need a spin-off channel to keep up with Love as she self-destructs right in from of our eyes.] - Click Here for the Full Story
Ace's Moments
A couple days ago, we ran a report from
BW&BK about the Vh1 special "100 Most Metal Moments". We now have for
info on the special for you. Mark Strigl, who produced directed and co-write
5 of the 100 segments checked in with us to fill us in on a couple more
that weren't mentioned before! Here is part of his email:
Hello antiMusic - 2 of the 100 segments in VH1's upcoming Metal Moments Special deal with Ace Frehley. One deals with his on-stage electrocution 1976 and the other is about his UFO encounter in 2002. I had the honor of producing both 2-3 minute segments for VH1.
The UFO piece reports on Ace's UFO encounter with commentary from Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Sebastian Bach, Eddie Trunk and John Ostronomy. Ace originally told DJ Eddie Trunk about his encounter on Eddie's radio show, "Eddie Trunk Rocks", in July 2002.
100 Most Metal Moments starts airing May 31st on VH1.

topics of the week. We'll give you a preview of each week's column in the

Britney Lip-Synchs?
So, I'm surfing the net the other day and I ran across something that actually pulled my attention from the porn I was downloading. (Which, by the way, is no small feat.)
It seems that the internet news services were all buzzing with the latest piece of Britney Spears gossip. According to The Sun Newspaper Online Britney had actually - are you sitting down? - lip-synched her entire set at Wembley Arena.
I was shocked. I read on
It seemed that the 12,000 or so rabid fans that bought tickets for the show were actually expecting her to sing, the poor fools.
Stunned, I was. Flabbergasted.
I mean, I couldn't believe that this was actually news. Isn't there a war going on? Aren't bombs going off right around election time? Isn't Jennifer Aniston out of a job? And you people are actually wasting breath on this topic? What's next, a spirited discussion on the legitimacy of her boobs?
Let me get this straight - 12,000 people went to a Britney Spears concert to hear her sing? No, you went because you're hoping for a wardrobe malfunction just as badly as I am. (Nasty lil' thing, ain't she?)
We've become a society where we not only enjoy being lied to, we pretty much expect it. And if anything happens to somehow send that façade crashing down, we're ready to go to litigation in order to get our pain and suffering food stamps.
Case in point: A group of fans actually tried to bring a class action suit against the lead singer of Creed because he sounded bad during a concert. (Apparently no one noticed that he always sounds bad.) Maybe he should have lip-synched, but I digress
So, just in case any of you are still either in the dark or in denial, here's a quick test that you can use at the next concert you attend. If the performer is jumping around on stage like they're in a Tae-Bo infomercial and yet they never miss a single note, they are synching their ass off. In other words, if it sounds just like the CD is playing, it is.
I blame MTV.
Music used to be something you listened to, now it's something you watch. So why should anyone be surprised when an artist resorts to using canned music and vocal tracks so that they can adequately recreate their latest million dollar plus video for you? (Kinda tough to dance and sing, kids. Try it sometime.)
So what's the problem here? In the immortal words of Gladiator, "Are you not entertained?"
In the case of Britney Spears, of course you are. You got exactly what you paid for: A hot little slice of ex-mouseketeer ass smothered in raunch dressing with stilettos a la mode for dessert. No cherry on top, though - she lost that a long time ago. (Damn you, Justin Timberlake. Damn you to hell!)
But just in case you're still aching for the real thing when it comes to live vocals, don't watch MTV, watch American Idol.
Hey, THOSE kids can sing!
That's my two cents, now gimme my change.

story on antiMUSIC. Hey, if you can't make fun of yourself Click the full
