into the VIP area, a section of the restaurant hidden by arches and protected
by a velvet rope, only to be turned away. "Janet's people didn't want her
anywhere near them," one security guard remarked. - Click

Axl Speaks... Bad News
liveDaily reports: Guns N' Roses--a band
that hasn't released an album of original material in well over a decade--have
cancelled their May 30 performance at this year's Rock in Rio festival.
In a statement, frontman Axl Rose, the group's sole original member, blamed recently departed guitarist Buckethead--so named because he performs with an empty Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket on his head--for the cancellation.
"The band has been put in an untenable position by guitarist Buckethead and his untimely departure," Rose said. "During his tenure with the band, Buckethead has been inconsistent and erratic in both his behavior and commitment--despite being under contract--creating uncertainty and confusion and making it virtually impossible to move forward with recording, rehearsals and live plans with confidence. His transient lifestyle has made it impossible for even his closest friends to have nearly any form of communication with him whatsoever.
"According to those who have actually spoken with Buckethead, it appears his plans were to secure a recording contract with Sanctuary Records, which I encouraged my management to make available to him, quit GN'R and to use his involvement in the upcoming Guns release to immediately promote his individual efforts," Rose continued. "Nice guy! [see full story link for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

It's Not the Downloads Stupid
MTV reports: While file-sharing continues
to be blamed by the recording industry for slumping music sales, a new
study conducted by the Harvard Business School shows that downloading has
only a negligible effect on CD sales.
"Downloads have an effect on sales which is statistically indistinguishable from zero," concludes the report, conducted with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. "Moreover, [the effect of file-sharing] is of moderate economic significance and is inconsistent with claims that file-sharing is the primary reason for the recent decline in music sales."
Unlike many reports that have popped up on both sides of the file-sharing debate, Harvard's study is not a survey. Jurassic Rock Still Rocks
Blabbermouth reports: Edna Gundersen of
USA Today is reporting that Jamie Horton, 14, considers himself a fairly
savvy music-loving teen. The Los Angeles ninth-grader trawls the Internet
for rock discoveries and totes an iPod packed with 3,000 tunes.
His favorite band? QUEEN. Not late-'90s rock outfit QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, not late-'80s metal band QUEENSRCHE and certainly not latter-day rap diva QUEEN LATIFAH.
Jamie reveres the glam-metal British quartet that flourished in the '70s with mock operatic "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the anthemic "We Will Rock You".
"I don't like new wannabe punk like GOOD CHARLOTTE," he says. "LED ZEPPELIN was the first old band I liked. Then PINK FLOYD. Now it's THE WHO and QUEEN." [see full story link for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Princely Opening
AP reports: Every school should be this
much fun. Prince is billing his "Musicology" tour as a way to educate audiences
accustomed to computer-generated hits about the joys of live music. He
made good on that promise Monday at the tour's opener at Staples Center.
But who was he kidding?
This show is really about the history of Prince, especially given his pledge that this tour will be the last time he plays his hits live.
As he started the night with the title track of the upcoming album "Musicology," followed in quick succession by "Let's Go Crazy," "I Would Die 4 U" and "When Doves Cry," audience members had to wonder how long he could keep up the momentum until they realized he could go all night.
