Punk Pioneer Dies
New York Times reports: Robert Quine,
a noted guitarist of the New York rock scene of the 1970's and 80's who
played with Richard Hell, Lou Reed and others, died last week in his home
in Manhattan. He was 61.
He was found dead by the police on Saturday, said James Marshall, a friend. The police found a note and said they believed the death was a suicide but are awaiting a medical examiner's report. Mr. Marshall said he believed Mr. Quine died on May 31.
In the loud world of New York punk, where crude simplicity trumped most conventional notions of musical skill, Mr. Quine stood out as a stylish virtuoso. His guitar, first heard on "Blank Generation," the 1977 album by Richard Hell and the Voidoids, borrowed equally from rockabilly, jazz and the Velvet Underground, giving the music a quick, agitated pulse and an explosive power. Satanic Killings By Metal
Band
Blabbermouth reports: The bodies of two
members of the Italian heavy metal band BEASTS OF SATAN, who were allegedly
killed six years ago in a satanic sacrifice, were uncovered in a two-meter
deep grave in a wood in northern Italy, according to Reuters.
19-year-old Chiara Marino and 16-year-old Fabio Tollis were last seen in January 1998 leaving a pizzeria with other members of their group. Four of the band members have been arrested for murdering the pair for a human sacrifice.
"It is a crime with a level of cruelty and savagery, with an intent to cause extreme pain through ritual activity, that I have never seen before in my career," chief investigating magistrate Antonio Pizzi told Reuters on Monday.
"There was a very specific ritual with very specific rites and at the end of that Chiara and Fabio were killed."
Italian media said witness statements showed Marino and Tollis died during a cocaine-fuelled ritual where Marino, a petite brunette, was killed under a full moon by knife plunged into her heart. [see full story for more including photos]- Click Here for the Full Story
Tool CD Update
Blabbermouth reports: According to a posting
at Toolband.com, TOOL members Adam Jones (guitars), Justin Chancellor (bass)

writing and arranging material for the next TOOL CD, this despite the Lakers
being in the NBA play-offs, a fact of life which occupies a couple of the
band members' nights (rehearsal/writing sessions go from noon 'till six).
In a couple of weeks, when he's finished touring with [A PERFECT CIRCLE],
[singer] Maynard [James Keenan] will join in on the ghastly fun (although
he's already been quite involved), and hopefully, another web-cast can
be arranged once more of the new songs begin to take shape. [more]-
