Nugent Vs Deer
BW&BK reports: Controversial rocker TED NUGENT is offering up his services in a dilemma that has folks in North Barrington saying "oh deer."

People living in the Wynstone Estates say deer are tearing up their landscaping. So last week the village voted to allow bow hunters to come in and kill about 20 deer.

New Video Channel from Universal?
Chart Attack reports: It's so cliche to complain about music television stations that don't actually play music anymore. Yes, MTV and MuchMusic are more likely to be playing episodes of Newlyweds or Pimp My Ride than videos by anyone other than Usher and Britney Spears... According to an article in today's issue of the New York Times, at least one record label is considering taking matters into its own hands.

According to the Times article, the idea is still in the planning stages, with Universal currently in talks with the American satellite provider The Dish Network. If all goes well, the video channel could be up early next year. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

"I'm typing from Tokyo where I'm still recovering from a stomach bug. I'm well on the road to recovery and am flying out to New York to join the band for the show in New Jersey on Friday.

"I'm going to miss the first two shows of the U.S. tour but have deputised Toshi, of The Fiery Furnaces, for bass playing duties. I'm sorry to miss the shows in Detroit and Philadelphia but if I'd have left the hospitable [sic] too early there was a good chance my illness would have worsened again and I might have ended back in hospital somewhere in the U.S. possibly missing even more shows. Shins Down Under
Pitchfork reports: It would be hard to deny that The Shins haven't made great strides in 2004. With plenty of momentum from the success of 2003's Chutes Too Narrow, they moved from being respected newcomers to a beloved indie staple in just one year. Part of their success (if you discount the Garden State factor, which we would really really like to do) can be attributed to their rigorous touring schedule, which has taken them around the country several times. Now, mere weeks after returning from yet another U.S. jaunt, the tenured Albuquerque natives will saddle up for a trip overseas, touching down in Australia and Japan on an eight-date excursion to kick off 2005. Steven Mark Hits A Classic Mark
press release reports: Modern rock has a problem. There are too many artists who build their music on flashy tricks and lackluster musical concepts. Steven Mark has a different idea. A new face on the New York music scene, Mark has been longing for the simpler formats of days past, from artists like The Byrds and The Doors, bands that kept an uncomplicated view of music and a simple direction " a melody that didn't take serious contemplation to enjoy. Now bringing that very sound to the audiences of New York, Mark has released his own CD, Distraction, a departure from the common high-energy rock of today that revisits a long-lost but timelessly appreciated form of music.

"I wanted the album to feel like it came out in 1966." says Mark. "Something that would sound right at home in a smoke infested college dorm room at 2 a.m." To capture this sound, Mark partnered with producer Alton Delano on the arrangements. Delano, a seasoned songwriter and arranger, poured his expertise into the project to craft exactly the sound Mark was looking for. Another Day Insight, with its dreamy Pink Floyd instrumentation and Lennonesque vocals, perfectly boasts the precision of Mark and Delano's collaboration.
