Bassist Killed By Lover
Blabbermouth reports: [a follow up to
a story in yesterday's Day in Rock]...former SOILENT GREEN bassist Scott
Williams (a.k.a. James Scott Williams) was shot to death by his companion
late Monday (April 26) after an argument at a restaurant. Williams' companion,
Tracey Terry, then turned the gun on himself.
About 11:50 p.m., Terry shot Williams in the head with a .38 caliber revolver, then killed himself, said Col. Robert Garner of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. The men had moved in with Williams' mother in the 600 block of Bannerwood Drive about two months ago, neighbors said.
Neighbor Rachael Jackson said the men had dinner with two other men Monday night. Those men told her Tuesday morning that Terry left the restaurant angry because Williams had been talking to another person. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
GNR Demo CD
Blabbermouth reports: According to Navarre.com
and Amazon.com, Cleopatra Records has set a June 1 release date for "The
Roots of Guns N' Roses", a collection of the very first demos recorded
by Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin before they became GUNS N' ROSES.
The album features five demo recordings that haven't been heard in decades, plus new remixes by former GN'R member Gilby Clarke. These rare tracks showcase the raw talent of Axl and Izzy that was just beginning to blossom into GN'R.
The story of GUNS N' ROSES began when L.A. GUNS founder Tracii Guns introduced guitarist Chris Weber to Izzy Stradlin in the parking lot of the Rainbow Bar And Grill. After jamming together at Izzy's place, the two decided to form a band and recruited a vocalist, Bill Bailey, better known to most as Axl Rose. Together, they drew inspiration from the diverse musical scene emerging in Hollywood and, with the help of drummer Johnny Kreis, recorded a demo under the name HOLLYWOOD ROSE. Jail For Black Metal Beating?
BW&BK reports: GORGOROTH vocalist
Gaahl is facing jail time as he is being accused of beating a 41 year old
man in what the victim called a ritual attack. Gaahl, 28, faced up to a
nine-year sentence for threats and violence, but the prosecution asked
for 18 months as the lurid trial headed to a close on Wednesday.
The Aftenposten English Web Desk adds the following to the story:
The victim, who has been on sick leave for the past two years after the alleged attack, accused the black metal singer of performing ritual violence that included tapping off his blood and drinking it, newspaper VG reports. Gaahl's mother testified during the trial and found the accusation of blood drinking particularly hard to believe.
"My son is a vegetarian and very fussy about food. He eats absolutely no innards. That is why I do not believe this at all," Gaahl's mother told the court. - Click Here for the Full Story

Blown Fuse
Electric Basement reports: FUSE TV's metal
maniac and host of the URANIUM metal program, spoke candidly about some
of the more prominent heavy bands. On THE DARKNESS, "f*** THAT ----!!!!
f***ing gay! First I thought it was funny, but know I want to rip his annoying
vocal cords out of his damn throat!"
PUDDLE OF MUDD received a less positive response as well, "They are very boring and whiny. And again man, to each their own, but I'd be embarrassed to call myself rock if I sounded like that. Where's the force? The rebellion? If I wanted to hear whining and horrible music I'd f***in' listen to country damnit."

Final Elliot Smith
Pitchfork reports: Elliott Smith's final
studio release is currently in the final mixing stages, with tentative
plans for a fall release. In an update on Smith's official website, Gary
Smith, Elliott's father, has announced that there are tentative plans for
a September or October release, with more specs to follow. Smith began
the album From the Basement on the Hill two years before his tragic death
late last year, and many have speculated as to what would happen to the
music now that he has been unable to see it through. Before his death,
the album had been shopped around to various indie labels before Dreamworks
came on board to release it. Whether or not Dreamworks will still be releasing
Basement is unclear, as apparently the label gave the material back to
Smith to release however he chose. Now, it seems, that decision is up to
his family. [see full story for more]- Click

Cranberries Singer Off The
Hook
Guardian reports: The lead singer of the
Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, emerged triumphant from a Dublin courtroom
yesterday after a judge largely dismissed a lawsuit brought by her former
nanny.
The Irish pop star and her husband, Don Burton, were ordered to pay Joy Fahy €1,500 (£1,050) to compensate for clothes "mislaid" when she unexpectedly bolted from her job as O'Riordan's nanny in 1999.
But the judge ruled Ms Fahy had failed to prove her more serious allegations that Mr Burton had falsely imprisoned her or that the couple had been in breach of contract. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Pretty Things Invasion
press release reports: For those who thought
the '60s British Invasion started with The Rolling Stones and ended with
Led Zeppelin, Come See Me is a startling revelation. With this comprehensive
25-song CD, Shout! Factory re-introduces American audiences to one of the
UK's most influential rock 'n ' roll bands, The Pretty Things. Come See
Me is the first "best-of" compilation that spans The Pretty Things' entire
career - over a decade of songs reflecting the change in rock music from
the mid-'60s to the mid-'70s. Come See Me hit stores April 20th.
Led by vocalist Phil May and guitarist Dick Taylor (who was also in an early incarnation of The Rolling Stones), The Pretty Things were revered by acts like the Stooges, The Sex Pistols and David Bowie, but fans never really discovered their punk infused, bluesy rock. Although they were pioneers of the Invasion sound, their music continued to evolve over the years, dabbling in psychedelia, R&B, and later, rock opera. In fact, their S.F. Sorrow has been credited as the inspiration for The Who's Tommy. - Click Here for the Full Story
