John Lennon's Last Autograph
For Sale
ABC reports: A signed sketch believed
to be the last thing John Lennon wrote before being assassinated about
half an hour later is on sale for $US325,000
The former switchboard operator to whom he gave it, Rabiah Seminole, said she was working at the Record Plant recording studios in Manhattan on December 8, 1980 when Lennon left the building with Yoko Ono at about 10:25pm.
She asked him for an autograph and he dashed off a sketch of two faces, signing it "for Ribiah, love, John". Ono also signed it.
The former Beatle was shot and killed by Mark Chapman when he arrived back at his apartment just before 11:00pm.
Ms Seminole said she had decided to sell the sketch to raise money for a horse rescue centre she runs in Chesapeake, Virginia. - Click Here for the Full Story
Rock Radio Changing
Rolling Stone reports: Heavy bands such
as Godsmack, Nickelback, Linkin Park and Trapt have had a stranglehold
on modern-rock radio for years. But another punk revolution may be in the
works, as stations around the country are squeezing songs by bands such
as the Darkness and Modest Mouse into playlists alongside harder stuff.
Years after R.E.M., Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots invented alt-rock radio, could the sound be coming back? At many influential big-city stations, such as Los Angeles' trendsetting KROQ and New York's K-Rock, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Strokes and Modest Mouse have all hit the Top Ten. - Click Here for the Full Story

In which New Year?
Slaying Canada
Chart Attack reports: Not only will Slayer
be playing in Moncton on June 11, but the metal legends will be doing four
more dates in Eastern Canada, alongside Damage Plan and Otep. And while
the bill hasn't been completely solidified, it has been rumoured that Newfoundland's
Bucket Truck have also been asked to open all five shows.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with metal, Slayer are one of the world's fastest, heaviest and darkest bands, and have been so for more than 20 years. Also, for the first time since 1992, they're touring with their original lineup and they're said to be working on a new album right now.
Alongside Ozzy Osbourne and Judas Priest, Slayer are headlining Ozzfest this July and will be joined on the road on some of the dates by Otep. Damage Plan, on the other hand, is the brainchild of Pantera's Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, and they're currently crossing America with Drowning Pool and Hatebreed, as part of MTV 2's Headbanger's Ball Tour. Metallica's 2nd Leg
Launch reports: Metallica kicks off the
second leg of their North American tour Tuesday (April 20) in Long Island,
New York, after taking a three-week break. Drummer Lars Ulrich told LAUNCH
that the band likes to shake things up musically every night just to keep
the show fresh: "You know, basically when we started the St. Anger touring
cycle, we started just changing the set every night. Up through the '90s,
we got a little stuck, and it got a little rigid, and we started to go
out and play the same set list for six months every night. So we're really
trying to just play different stuff every night, and it's awesome when
you do doubles, like we will in New York, and you get a chance to really
just play different shows. It's pretty cool." - Click

RIAA Drops Amnesty
AP reports: The music industry's trade
group has ended a program that offered to prevent people from being sued
by recording companies if the downloaders admitted to illegally sharing
music online, according to court documents.
The Recording Industry Association of America launched the "Clean Slate" program in September, when it embarked on a strategy of suing individual computer users for copyright infringement.
The program required individuals to acknowledge in writing that they shared music files online and then remove the files from their computers. In exchange, the RIAA pledged not to target them in its lawsuit campaign.
While hundreds signed up, critics dismissed the program, saying the trade group could not possibly guarantee that anyone who admitted to file-sharing would not be the target of a lawsuit. - Click Here for the Full Story
Timo On Stratovarius
Electric Basement reports: Ex-STRATOVARIUS
frontman TIMO KOTIPELTO told Electricbasement.com about his experiences
with volatile guitarist and band visionary TIMO TOLKKI, "It's been going
on for many years. Because I remember when we had the Destiny tour six
years ago, he was drinking very heavily. He had some problems with his
ex wife at that time. When we came back to Helsinki, he disappeared for
two weeks and we had no contact at all.
Then I heard from one friend who had seen Tolkki. He told me Timo was already about to fire the whole (band) then. He was depressed, then started doing therapy. He'd been seeing this one therapist. I'd never seen this guy, but he told me he'd seen him once a week. I don't personally trust in this type of therapy. I'd rather talk to my brothers."
Kotipelto did say it was mostly a positive experience in the band, "...I spent more than 10 years in that band, so most of the experiences are very good like playing live and touring around the world. I always try to remember those and not all the bad things." [click the full story link to read the entire interview- Click Here for the Full Story
