Jack White "Violently Attacked" Rival
NME reports: JACK WHITE "defended himself as any normal person would have" in the bar brawl with JASON STOLLSTEIMER, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson today (December 17).

As previously reported, a fracas between Jack and Jason in Detroit (December 13) ended in both giving statements to police and Jason visiting hospital for head injuries, while White had minor injuries to his hand.

Following the incident at the Magic Stick venue, the Von Bondies ' management issued a statement to the American press, which claims Stollsteimer was "violently attacked" in the club "without  warning or provocation". Management also issued this picture to NME.COM, which they say were taken shortly after the alleged incident.

Not so, according to a statement issued to NME.COM by White Stripes' press office.

Their statement claims: "Jack White was involved in a bar room altercation over the weekend in Detroit. Jack White defended himself as any normal person would have under the circumstances."

Police will decide by the end of the week if any of the allegations will result in criminal charges.. Click Here for the Full Story

Top Tours of 03
Billboard reports: Seasoned veterans once again dominated the touring business in 2003. The top three tours for the year to Nov. 18 were by the Rolling Stones (grossing $299.5 million), Bruce Springsteen ($181.7 million) and Cher ($76.3 million).

The Stones staked their claim as the top touring act on the planet. The band's ambitious Licks world tour, produced by Michael Cohl's TGA Entertainment, played to more than 3.4 million people, exceeding expectations. "We're never that aggressive in our projections," Cohl says. "It's always nice when you come up with an idea, go through rehearsals, go up with the first dates on sale, then start playing the shows, and maybe it works."

Rounding out the top 10 tours of the year were Fleetwood Mac ($69.2 million), Dixie Chicks ($62.2 million), Eagles ($53.7 million), Dave Matthews Band ($52.6 million), Aerosmith & Kiss ($50 million), Metallica's Summer Sanitarium ($48.5 million) and Billy Joel & Elton John ($45.8 million). ..Click Here for the Full Story

Ozzy Neck of Steel
Herald Sun reports: Ozzy Osbourne is joking with nurses - asking two to marry him - but will probably take six months to fully recover from his quad bike crash injuries, his wife Sharon said yesterday.

The former BLACK SABBATH lead singer is making progress in the intensive care unit of Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, west of London, where he has been since the December 8th accident.

England's Mirror reports that Ozzy is to have a seven inch steel plate fitted to the back of his neck, it was revealed yesterday.

Surgeons will perform the delicate operation as soon as Ozzy is strong enough.

It is understood they will insert the plate and take bone grafts from the singer's pelvis to reinforce the area in a three-hour operation. The plate will help stabilize the vertebrae Ozzy cracked in the quad bike crash.

Doctors fear that without it Ozzy could suffer permanent damage if he fell on his head or neck again.

Spinal surgeon Alan Gardner said the operation could be carried out only by "the country's top 100 surgeons".

Mr. Gardner, who works at Hartswood Hospital, Essex, added: "The plate will be used to stabilize the area and bone grafts put in so it will be like reinforcing rods in a concrete building, with bone forming all around it.

"The plate will be secure for the rest of the patient's life." It would prevent any pressure being put on the spinal cord. -Click Here for the Full Story

More File Traders Sued
MuchMusic reports: The Canadian recording industry's trade organization announced yesterday that they will be following in the footsteps of their American counterparts and launching legal action against music file-sharers. The Recording Industry of America launched over 250 lawsuits against American downloaders in September. At that point, the Canadian Recording Industry Association hinted that lawsuits might follow here, but did not announce definite plans. CRIA has been using the same tracking software as the Americans, and expects their lawsuits to be very similar to those south of the border. CRIA says that they spent over $1 million on a public education campaign to discourage downloading before turning to legal action against computer users. Brian Robertson - the head of CRIA - says that the action will come "sooner than later" but did not set a specific date for the launch of the legal campaign. .-Click Here for the Full Story

Yoko Vs. McCartney
YOKO Ono appears to have reignited her feud with Sir Paul McCartney.

He is said to be furious that John Lennon's widow has removed his name from the credit of the song Give Peace A Chance on a new DVD, Lennon Legend.
The song -- released in 1969 by the Plastic Ono Band -- was written by Lennon. But, because he was still in the Beatles at the time, it has always carried the Lennon-McCartney credit.  .Click Here for the Full Story

The Darkness for X-mas
NME reports: THE DARKNESS have stolen the lead in the race for the Christmas Number One, according to bookmakers.

On the second day of sales, Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' has seen its odds shortened yet further to 1/3, making them favourites. Former favourite Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' by the 'Pop Idol' finalists have lengthened from odds of 1/2 to 8/1, according to Ladbrokes bookmakers.

However, it now looks like a three-horse race after Michael Andrews and Gary Jules saw their odds cut in half from 8/1 to 4/1 for their cover of Tears For Fears' 1982 smash Mad World', as featured on the Donnie Darko' soundtrack. Bookmakers face a six-figure payout if the track triumphs, having started on 50/1 odds in November.

Midweek sales figures bear out the odds, with 'Pop Idol' currently languishing in fifth place behind the three front-runners and current chart-toppers Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne, according to HMV.. Click Here for the Full Story

Beatles Secret Reunion
NME reports: Mystery surrounds an Internet auction site which claims to have proof that THE BEATLES reunited in 1976 for a recording session in LOS ANGELES.

The website is auctioning a recordings list and tape of five songs that the Fab Four allegedly recorded on November 2 at Davlen Studios. It is also claimed that the session ended with the band storming out of the session.

A statement on momentsintime.com said: "The names of the songs as listed on the Davlen Studios label are as follows: 1.'Happy Feeling' 2.'Back Home' 3.'Rockin Once Again' 4.'People Of The Third World' 5.'Little Girl'.

It adds: "In addition to the four Beatles, George Martin was also allegedly present, Len Kovner, former co-owner of Davlen Studios, can independently confirm all of the above, as can the engineers who were then present."

However momentsintime.com say that the tape, which is present in the case, was bulk erased by request of The Beatles in order to keep the knowledge of the session secret.

An unerased version of the tape is rumoured to exist in the vaults of the legendary studio, Abbey Road.

However, a spokesman for Paul McCartney said: "What reunion was that? I am not aware of any Beatles reunion in the 70s." -Click Here for the Full Story

"We had the tape to prove it but it got erased. So we're auctioning off the blank tape. We also have a blank canvas that Van Gogh once painted but somehow the paint was removed, that will go on sale next month."

"Pearl Jam is exploring a number of different ways to get music directly to its fans following the recent fulfillment of its contract with Epic Records, with whom the band has not yet decided to re-sign," Pearl Jam's manager Kelly Curtis said.
