Weiland's Rehab Drug Bust.
Blabbermouth reports: VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland has been placed on strict lockdown at the Pasadena, Ca. rehab facility where he is currently completing a six-month residential program after he was caught attempting to smuggle drugs into the center, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Weiland, who was allowed out for several days last month, under police supervision, to complete his vocals for VELVET REVOLVER's debut album, is believed to have one more song left to record for the as-yet-untitled CD, tentatively due in late March/early April through RCA Records.

As previously reported, the former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist was scheduled to appear in court on December 3 on a DUI charge, but the hearing was moved to December 23. Weiland will enter a plea at that time to charges of driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested on his birthday, October 27, after crashing his BMW into several parked cars on a Los Angeles street, then attempting to flee the scene. . Click Here for the Full Story

So What! has been published for ten years now and is sent to Fan Club members on a quarterly basis. So What! editor Steffan Chirazi, who has been reporting on the band for over 15 years, will be editing the book that promises to be filled with photos, handwritten notes, roundtable interviews, original fan artwork, letters, and so much more. -Click Here for the Full Story

No, it's not a cook book.

Ozzy No. 1 in UK Will Sing Again
Reuters reports:  Ozzy Osbourne, recovering in hospital following emergency surgery for injuries he sustained in a quad bike accident,  topped the British pop charts on Sunday with a duet with his daughter Kelly.

Osbourne, 55, who shot to fame in the 1970s as frontman of Black Sabbath, fractured eight ribs and a vertebra in his neck in an accident at his English country estate last week.

However it didn't stop the newly-released duet "Changes" -- a soothing reworking of a Black Sabbath song -- rocketing straight to the number one spot in the singles charts.

After the accident, bookmakers slashed the odds on the song topping the U.K. charts at Christmas, saying people would buy the duet out of sympathy for Ozzy, who has mellowed from heavy rock wildman to become a much-loved star of the reality TV series "The Osbournes.". Digital Noise reports: An official press release issued by the Osbourne family on Friday, December 12th, refutes the claim that Ozzy may never sing again.

The statement says that "No such statements have been made."

Doctors had originally said that the ventilator may have damaged the singer's vocal cords to the point where he would never sing again.

"Ozzy has had no vocal cord or windpipe damage whatsoever," the family added.

Dr. Dick Jack, the Medical Director at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, south England where Ozzy is currently being treated, gave anm update regarding Osbourne's condition; "Mr. Osbourne had a good, comfortable [Thursday] night. He is progressing well, but slowly. With each day he becomes less dependent on the ventilator. It is still too early to take him off entirely."

Dr. Jack promises that he "will give a further update on Mr. Osbourne's condition on Monday morning."

Good news for Ozzy, the band news for us is Kelly is still able to do what she refers to as singing.. blah, blah, blah.

Velvet Revolver For Ozzfest?
siN's metal news: So if you don't read Rollingstone Magazine (Why would you anyhow?) then you haven't read the interview with Duff McKagan where he talks bout this:

Though the album is still a few months from release, touring plans are coming together. "We're going to go to Japan, Europe and play some shows, and then come back here," McKagan says. "Then our record will come out and we'll do some guerilla touring in major cities in the U.S. And then we were offered to headline Ozzfest."

So all in all that probably at least confirms that there will be an Ozzfest at least, whether or not VELVET REVOLVER is headlining or not only time will tell.

Speaking of Rolling Stone magazine, did Rob Sheffield take the short bus to school? He actually compared Missy Elliot to the Beatles.  At least he got one thing right, although he probably didn't mean to when he wrote that Elliot "drops the bomb of the year".

Great White's Deal With DA
Blabbermouth reports: GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell, drummer Eric Powers, guitarist Dave Filice and tour manager Daniel Biechele accepted agreements from the state attorney general's office that allowed them to talk to prosecutors during the Rhode Island nightclub fire investigation without fear their testimony would be used against them, according to the Boston Globe.

Michael Healey, a spokesman for Attorney General Patrick Lynch, said no one else was offered the letters, which do not provide immunity from prosecution. Healey said no deals were made.

A source close to the investigation said the letters were offered to the band members and Biechele in the days following the fire. They were questioned from Feb. 26 to March 2 by prosecutors. The source said the band answered all questions asked.

''Free talk letters are given out all the time. It's a regular practice. It's not a special deal,'' said Edward C. Roy Jr., a federal public defender and former president of the Rhode Island Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Roy said the letters are given to encourage witnesses to tell prosecutors what they know without fear of self-incrimination. But, Roy said, ''it doesn't protect you from other sources giving information that implicates you.''

Ed McPherson, a lawyer for GREAT WHITE, said the band cooperated with investigators. . Click Here for the Full Story

Virgin reports: Matchbox twenty guitar player Adam Gaynor is appealing to the band's fans to help him find his lost suitcase. Last seen at United Airlines terminal at LAX airport in Los Angeles, the suitcase and the band where returning from the Nov 20 taping of VH1's "Big In '03" show, and were on their way to Springfield, IL. PM5K Dropped
siN's metal news reports: POWERMAN 5000 singer Spider One officially confirmed that the band has been dropped by Dreamworks Records. The following message was posted on their bands forum:

Hey all, I know it's been very quiet around and there isn't too much Powerman action going on, but I figured I'd drop by with what little info that I have. As many of you have already guessed, we will begin selling Anyone for Doomsday very soon!!! It will only be available online and in somewhat limited quantity. So make sure you order your copy fast. The exact date of release in still up in the air, but think it will be before Christmas.

I've seen the new AFD on ebay for big bucks, save your money because we are gonna sell it cheap!! As for the content, musically it will be exactly as the original, though the package is new and it will also contain the 'Bombshell' video. Pretty cool, huh?

Also, most of you know that Dreamworks has been bought by Interscope records and in the process eliminating almost all of their staff ( including Fly) and the majority of their artists. I don't believe that PM5K will be making the move to Interscope, which leaves the immediate future somewhat up in the air. Time will tell what comes next.... but I am already planning some exciting s*** for 2004!!! That's about it for now Powerfans, check back soon for all the info on how to order AFD?

Oh yeah, me & Dominique have a happy, healthy baby boy ( thanks for the gift PG5k!!!) ...and one more thing, I am trying to keep Fly on as moderator but without Dreamworks it might be tough, though I do have faith that Fly will return. That's it for now..... -Click Here for the Full Story

Virgin Dumps Music
AP Reports: At Virgin Megastores it's move over music and say Hello Kitty.

Virgin Entertainment Group (VEG) North America is planning to cut back on floor space devoted to under-performing CD product at some of its key Virgin Megastore locations to make room for more DVDs, clothing and novelty items like Hello Kitty.

VEG recently unveiled what it is calling its model store of the future with a high-profile launch of its redesigned Virgin Megastore in San  Francisco.

The prototype design is expected to be extended to Virgin Megastores in New York and Los Angeles next year, after a test period at the model store.

"There's more to music than just music, and that's the way we've tried to set up the store," Virgin Entertainment Group North America CEO Glen Ward says.

"There's more to music than just music", it's this attitude and loss of focus that helped create the current environment. Try stacking the shelves with CD's people actually want to buy.

Grammy Hall Plans Crumble
Yahoo news: The city's [New Orleans] bid to create a museum honoring the Grammy Awards has been rejected by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Developers envisioned an interactive museum that would draw visitors from around the world to learn about Grammy-winning musicians and musical genres.

The Recording Academy sent representatives in November to hear a proposal from a group of elected officials, business leaders and musicians. Developer Pres Kabacoff said he was informed Friday that the academy wasn't interested.

"After due deliberation, the Recording Academy has made a final determination to not proceed with a Grammy Exposition and Hall of Fame in New Orleans," wrote Neil Portnow, the Los Angeles group's president, in a faxed letter. -Click Here for the Full Story

Metal Student Suspension
Adam L. Neal of The Daily Oakland Press is reporting that a Michigan high school student was suspended for two days for handing out flyers for a heavy metal concert.

The flyer for the local Detroit metal band DRAHNER (www.drahner.com) which is made up of Oxford High School alumni depicted a woman sitting on the edge of a tongue, fully clothed.

The flyer was found to be "extremely inappropriate" by Oxford principal Michael Schweig and his staff, according to Edie Paradowski, director of communications for the school.

She said the student was suspended Thursday (Dec. 11), not for promoting a hometown band, but for violating two school policies.

"If you want to post anything in the high school you have to get permission," Paradowski said about the first violation. "That and the flyer itself is disruptive. That is the interpretation made by the principal and assistant principals."

DRAHNER drummer Matt Vincentini, who graduated in 1996, said the band has never had problems in its three-year span.

"I don't think they should have suspended him in the first place," he said. "I think they should reverse their decision."

Paradowski said the administration is standing behind its decision, especially after meeting with the student and his parents Thursday night.

He probably would have gotten away with it if he stapled condoms to the flyers.

Microsoft Loudeye Deal
Hollywood Reporter reports: Digital media company Loudeye, working with Microsoft, is expected Monday to announce new digital music solutions that enable companies to have a music store or Internet radio service under their own brand.

Loudeye's first two customers for this are AT&T Wireless and Gibson Audio, the recently established consumer electronics division of Gibson Guitar Corp.

The idea behind the partnership is for any company to have its own digital music offering quickly, legally and with significantly reduced upfront investment, according to Loudeye president and CEO Jeff Cavins. The products are based on Microsoft's Windows Media 9 Series platform with its integrated Windows Media Digital Rights Management.

"There are more outlets for digital music than just the Web store," Cavins said. "These are unique, incremental channels for the labels and artists that they had not contemplated."

AT&T Wireless plans to create its online music store as part of that company's mMode service. In what AT&T Wireless said was a first, all sufficiently advanced phones will be able to sample and buy entire songs and ring tones beginning early next year. .-Click Here for the Full Story
