Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan picks up right in the middle of an extremely productive time for Stephan. His latest originals "Turn That ---- Up" (for Southern Fried) and "Lights Out ft. Rowetta" (with Pete Gleadall for Nervous) both appear on Nervous Nitelife: Tom Stephan and reflect his newest inspirations: the electro sound of the UK and the new Dutch sound. This inspiration comes to the forefront of the compilation with the rave-y electro stabs-meets-twisted house of Nervous Disco Dolly's "Get Up Everybody (Starkillers Mix)" and the minimal squelches of Seductive "Underground Sound." North and South unite when Miami's great Robbie Rivera and NYC's big room electro machine Rooster & Peralta throw down on "Move Move (DJ Observer & Daniel Heathcliff Mix)" This frantic wave is then met with a trough as the punishing beats of Benny Royal "Back to Basic," Afrojack "Polkadots," Christian Arango "Body Shake" and SpiritMindster "Furious Night (DJ Dextro Mix)" take over the center point of the mix. The final third of the mix is full of great surprises and the action picks up big time with Tom Stephan's own dizzying remix of Major Lazer "Keep It Going Louder (Tom Stephan Harder Mix)." This one sounds like a ride on the Gravitron. Williamsburg favorite Larry Tee keeps it going with the assistance of Roxy Cottontail on Afrojack's drum-atic remix of "Let's Make Nasty" while Mikix The Cat Mix takes it all back to the days of acid house with his whistle blowing remix of Rico Tubbs "Born to Bounce." The boobs start bouncing thanks to bonus beats courtesy of Diplo on his remixes of Bingo Players "Get Up" and Tom Stephan's "Turn That ---- Up" before Oscar G closes it out vocal house style with Tom Stephan's reworking of his "What You Need feat Tamara Wallace." - more on this story
The tour will open in Honolulu on January 15th, continue with shows in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, work its way east through Chicago and Boston, and wrap up at Irving Plaza in New York City on February 8th. DJ Mike Rizzo will open all dates for Utada. An additional show was announced for London, England on February 12th and sold out in just 5 hours. (Please see tour dates below). The tour also coincides with the release of a "Dirty Desire" album track remix to dance radio and clubs by tour mate DJ Mike Rizzo.
The album's most unique feature, however, might be its remixes. Sareem chose to remix the album's centerpiece track, "Lower the Boom" not once or twice, but half a dozen times. Each remixed version of "Lower the Boom" was given a different name, and each features a different producer and new guest verses. "Rude Awakening" is the first of the "Boom" remixes, and features typically fantastic contributions from DMV super-producer and Diamond District emcee Oddisee, as well as lyrical contributions from up-and-coming rapper DMV rapper Kenn Starr. Released by Mello Music Group, the remixes simply had produced too much good feedback for the label to keep them unreleased. Michael Tolle of Mello Music Group simply had no choice- "the promotional remixes started coming back from Oddisee, Fabio Musta, and Nick Tha 1Da and garnered so much attention, had so many people asking 'what album is that on?' that we felt we had to re-release the project with them included. We really wanted to make it worth people's while since the project had already dropped, so we figured we'd give people the whole package." The whole package is about to be delivered. Watch out for digital release of Black & Read All Over: Deluxe Edition, coming December 1 on Mello Music Group.

iLL-Literacy will be releasing iB4the1 in three chapters. The first, Chapter 1 (iB4the1.1), is available today. Because iLL-Literacy believes that traditional means of marketing and distribution have become obsolete, they are releasing all three chapters for free on their website (www.ill-literacy.com). In an effort to further obliterate the mold, iLL-Lit has partnered with street fashion legend C+ Jewelry to create USBiLL (pronounced "Us Be iLL"), a line of custom limited edition flash drives. A convenient and reusable alternative to CDs, USBiLL will be the primary physical form of the complete iB4the1 trilogy of releases. iB4the1 may be their debut "album," but the members of iLL-Literacy have known each other since birth and it shines through on their tracks. They boast a fully formed vision and aesthetic that few groups, especially young groups, can match. When asked about iB4the1.1, Drizzleton described it as an epic. He postulates that the ideal listening context for Chapter 1 would be on "either a short car drive... or upon the back of a spiny-toothed wombat in Africa, while watching Planet Earth on mute."

Santa Barbara, California, November 14 & 15, 2009 Hundreds are expected to gather for the love of skin art and the opportunity to support CALM at the "Ink For A Cause" two-day body art expo featuring world-renowned tattoo artists and piercers, live entertainment, roller derby girls, tattoo contests, assorted vendors, celebrity guests, and more. The event, the first of its kind in the city of Santa Barbara, is expected to attract serious collectors, as well as those who just want to learn more about this amazing art form. The event will be like a living, breathing art exhibit as well as have a full weekend of activities, including an after-party at Velvet Jones. "I have been a part of the body art community a long time and I wanted to put on a show with a greater purpose," says Christina Diaz, event promoter. "This show is about promoting body art in a positive light and is an opportunity to highlight and fund raise for organizations such as CALM." "Each year Ink For A Cause will feature a different charity," says Diaz. This year's charitable recipient, CALM (Child Abuse Listening and Mediation) is the only private non-profit agency in Santa Barbara county whose sole mission is to prevent, assess, and treat child abuse by providing comprehensive, culturally appropriate services for children, adults and families. - more on this story
